"Hating our bodies is something that we learn, and it sure as hell is something that we can unlearn."

-Megan Jayne Crabbe

If you're struggling with body image issues or feel that your self-esteem is tied to how you look, body image therapy can offer the support and tools you need to reclaim your sense of self and find peace with your body.

Body image therapy aims to help individuals improve their perception and relationship with their body and working towards accepting and respecting their body as-is. It focuses on rebuilding self-esteem, fostering body acceptance, and challenging harmful thoughts and behaviours related to one's physical appearance.

The way we think and feel about our body greatly impacts how we show up for ourselves and others.  Many factors can influence our body image including our family, friends, society, culture, and social media. Often times, those struggling with their body image experience anxiety, sadness, and feeling unworthy.

Body dissatisfaction can lead to dieting, cosmetic procedures, and isolation. Without seeking support you may find yourself distancing from friends and family, stressing at the thought of choosing an outfit, or having an unhealthy relationship with food or exercise in an attempt to feel better.

Body Image Therapy

What to Expect

When working to improve your body image you can expect to use elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Self-Compassion to identify and change your negative thoughts and beliefs to more realistic and compassionate ones. Together we will work at helping you learn body acceptance, respect, and neutrality.

Despite what you may think, as a body image therapist I do not promote a  "love your body" approach to therapy. Instead, I normalize that the way we feel about our body fluctuates and that despite what we may see online, loving your body is not the only way to heal your body image. Often times learning to respect, care for, and accept one's body as it is becomes be the most powerful action.
